Become a Pet CPR and First Aid Instructor

Pet Emergency Education is proud to have only experienced animal, veterinary, and emergency-trained professionals teaching our Pet CPR, First Aid, and Animal Emergency Care Classes. We are committed to providing high-quality, engaging, and practical education led by professionals who bring real-world expertise to every class.

Instructor Role Overview

Instructors with Pet Emergency Education are independent contractors, allowing flexibility and autonomy.

All accepted candidates must successfully complete an asynchronous virtual training and orientation program. This complimentary training is equivalent to 10 contact hours and is designed to prepare instructors thoroughly for their role.

Requirements to Become an Instructor

We hold our instructors to the highest standards to ensure an exceptional learning experience for every class participant. Candidates must meet the following criteria:

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the veterinary field, animal care, or emergency response.
Teaching Background: At least 1 year of experience teaching or training people, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively and engage a group.
Professional Expertise: Instructors must be animal or veterinary professionals, or first responders with significant emergency experience.

Supplies and Equipment for Teaching Classes

Instructors teaching our classes are required to purchase the necessary supplies and equipment to effectively conduct their sessions. Proper mannequins and models are essential for teaching the hands-on skills covered in our courses. However, instructor kits do not need to be purchased upfront, allowing flexibility for our instructors.

Instructor Kit Details

The cost of an instructor kit is $475 and includes the following essential items:

Mannequins and Models: 

Two large stuffed dog models (e.g., Melissa & Doug Husky or Golden Retriever). A bulldog model for flat-chested anatomy demonstrations. A cat model that can stand upright or lie down (style and color may vary).

AV Display Equipment: 

Portable equipment such as an LED monitor or projector for displaying the class PowerPoint presentation.

Instructor Branding: 

A personalized black logo T-shirt featuring the company logo and a 3×2 branded banner for use during classes and at events.

Educational Materials: A deluxe pet first aid kit and a

 printed copy of the Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid Manual.

Additional Equipment Requirements

Instructors are responsible for obtaining the following on their own (not provided by the company):

A laptop, tablet, or other device capable of connecting to the AV equipment for displaying the class PowerPoint presentation.

Independent Contractor Requirements

As per IRS guidelines for independent contractors, instructors are responsible for providing their own equipment and supplies, as well as managing their own training within their industry. Our company provides job-specific training to outline the guidelines for conducting classes and submitting work, ensuring instructors are fully prepared to succeed.

The following will be provided to contract instructors by our company:

Advertising and Marketing Assistance to find and promote classes in your local area

Strong presence on social media and promotion of the instructor’s classes on social media

Full-service office staff available for instructors’ needs

Professional website for hosting registration pages, and information and increasing credibility

No membership fees ever

We provide all books, cards and certificates directly to the instructor or class participants, relieving any additional expense to the instructor

Discounts and promotions offered by our company directly to class participants and hosts never affect the instructor’s compensation

Eligibility to teach shelter/rescue fundraising  classes with no impact on instructor’s compensation

All class and program credentials, approvals and national accreditations provided by our company

All continuing education approvals and credits will be awarded for instructors’ classes at no cost to the instructor

Contract Instructors are compensated $20 per person in the classes they teach. Classes average 8-15 people.

Filling out this form does not guarantee you will become an instructor. Qualified individuals will receive an interview via phone or Zoom with our program manager. 

As an Instructor, you will be required to sign our Policy Understanding and Independent Contractor Contract Agreement.

Instructors are not required to purchase supplies up front. They may wait until they complete the complimentary training before investing in equipment and supplies. Supplies may be purchased through Pet Emergency Education for the cost of $475 or they may obtain the required supplies on their own and provide Pet Emergency Education with proof of ownership.
