Course Overview:

Our Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid for Grooming Professionals Certification Course is designed exclusively for grooming professionals and salon staff who want to be fully prepared for emergencies that can occur in the grooming environment. This specialized training provides groomers with the critical skills to manage medical emergencies, unexpected injuries, and potentially life-threatening situations—ensuring you can act quickly and confidently to protect the pets in your care.

Whether you own a salon, operate as a mobile groomer, or work as part of a grooming team, this course will give you the knowledge and assurance needed to maintain the highest standard of safety for your clients’ pets.

Course Format:
This is a lecture-style class with a hands-on session focused on CPR for dogs and cats.

Skills and Topics Covered:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Groomers: Understand the steps to perform CPR on dogs and cats, with a focus on techniques for various breeds and sizes that are commonly seen in grooming salons. You’ll learn how to identify signs of cardiac distress, use the correct hand placement, and deliver chest compressions and mouth-to-snout resuscitation effectively.
  • First Aid for Grooming-Related Injuries: Accidents can happen during grooming, such as cuts, abrasions, or minor wounds from tools and equipment. Learn how to properly manage these injuries by cleaning and dressing wounds, applying bandages, and stabilizing more severe situations like fractures. These skills help ensure a safer grooming environment for pets.
  • Choking and Airway Obstruction Management: With grooming tools and small items present, there is always a risk of airway obstructions. Learn how to recognize choking hazards and safely perform techniques to clear blocked airways. This knowledge is crucial for quickly addressing emergencies caused by hair clippers, grooming tools, or swallowed objects.
  • Shock and Poisoning Response: In a salon environment, pets may be exposed to toxic substances like cleaning products, shampoos, or grooming sprays. This course teaches you how to identify symptoms of poisoning and shock, administer first aid, and know when to seek veterinary care. Understanding these responses can save a pet’s life during a critical moment.
  • Heatstroke Prevention and Treatment: Grooming salons, especially those using heat dryers or heated water, can present risks of heatstroke to pets. Learn how to prevent heat-related illnesses and treat pets that show signs of overheating. This knowledge ensures that you can keep pets cool and comfortable throughout the grooming process.
  • Animal Behavior and Safe Restraint Techniques for Groomers: Stress, fear, or pain can impact a pet’s behavior during grooming. Learn safe and humane restraint techniques to perform first aid without causing harm to the pet or yourself. This training will help you maintain a calm and controlled environment in the salon, ensuring safety for everyone involved.
