Equine Emergency First Aid Training Overview
Registration Includes:

- Printed copy (available for an additional $24.95)
- Businesses, organizations, and groups may request a professional, frameable certificate to display and promote their staff’s training.
- Certificates will be available for download and printing within 72 hours after the class in your membership account. Our office will confirm with the instructor that you attended and passed all certification requirements.
Important Note:
This course does not teach veterinary medical care or any procedures restricted to licensed veterinary professionals. It is an introductory first aid course designed to help horse owners and equine professionals manage emergencies until veterinary care is available.
Course Structure:
This class is a lecture-based course with demonstrations of essential first aid skills.
Topics Covered:
- Transport and Restraint: Managing sick or injured horses, including cast and down horses
- Triage and Physical Exams: How to obtain vital signs and assess emergencies
- Traumatic Injuries: Managing wounds, fractures, and applying emergency leg splints
- Trail and Event Emergencies: How to respond to emergencies at shows or on the trail
- Emergency Preparedness: Developing a farm emergency plan and equine first aid kit
First Aid for Common Emergencies:
- Severe bleeding and wounds
- Traumatic injuries and lameness
- Burns
- Eye injuries
- Digestive issues
- Heatstroke
- Snake bites
- Poisoning and toxicity
Disaster Management (Using FEMA Curriculum):
- Managing horses during disasters (floods, fires, power outages)
- Assessing the farm’s susceptibility to hazards
- Identifying actions to minimize animal and human harm
First Aid Supplies:
Equine first aid kits, specialized thermometers, stethoscopes, and other supplies are available for purchase in our online store. Items ordered at least 6 days before the class will be available at the event. Orders placed within 6 days of the class will be shipped directly to you.
Certification:
Participants will receive certification in Equine Emergency First Aid and Emergency Response.
While emergency first aid can improve outcomes for medical emergencies, we strongly recommend seeking veterinary care in all cases.
